Industrialization and urbanization of townships and cities have been the engine for economic and social growth for any developed or developing country. Rapid growth, coupled with mass movement of human from villages and towns to urban centres is placing immense strain and stress on local resources, both physical such as building space, land, natural resources etc as well as environmental like quality of life, physical well-being of the citizens.
While the shortage of physical resources like access to housing and authorised land results in creation of unauthorised settlements, rising pollution level, traffic congestions, inadequate waste management strategies as well as deficit in easy affordable power and water for citizens have resulted in deterioration in quality of life as well as environment in many urban centres – cities and townships alike.
Against this background, a GREEN rating standard has been developed that addresses the following issues for any development activity:
- Environmental planning and design
- Land use planning
- Resources management
- Community development
In general, the GREEN ratings establish procedures and measurement guidelines to facilitate restoration and preservation of the natural environment by encouraging strategies that aid interface between the built environment and the natural environment. These strategies also drive sustainability efforts and help achieve the goals that the government, corporates or even local municipal bodies aspire for.
Green rating or certification, hence, is used to indicate the level of environmental and social friendliness for any development activity. Green certifications, rating systems and labels are basically a set of strategic standards that are set as goals by the key stakeholders. These goals then add a layer of responsibility, accountability and delivery discipline along with integration of sustainability at each stage of development.
GREEN QUEST aspires to be a leading consultancy in GREEN Certification and sustainability solutioning. We offer not only an exhaustive consultancy in terms of tools, analysis and strategies to go GREEN but also provide SMART solutions that actually help monitor and sustain these changes well into the future.
Different countries have GREEN rating guidelines that are specifically designed for and cater to domestic government’s GREEN aspirations. However, each GREEN rating needs to meet basic rigorous standards and requirements common to all GREEN programs.
The rating program chosen usually depends on the following:
- The geography, demographics of the proposed site.
- Government regulations, mandates and incentives.
- The stage and state of infrastructure development.
- The aspirations and commitment of the stakeholders - rating level they aspire for.
- Financial commitment from the stakeholders.
Green Quest works closely with the stakeholder management team as well as their project team to conduct a feasibility study prior to submission of a detailed project plan that comprises feasibility analysis, local rules and regulations, financial cost-benefit analysis, GREEN activities required to be implemented by both stakeholders (service providers) as well as service consumers, Carbon offset certificates and CSR considerations. Once the rating level is determined, Green Quest team draws up an implementation plan. Depending on the requirement, Green Quest also provided technical services that would help the stakeholder to complete the project on time and within budget. Finally, to facilitate real time monitoring and response, Green Quest provides a single consolidated view of all SMART and GREEN implementations. This allows management to keep track of all their investments and aspirations of GREEN.
